Background and Services

Grand River Personnel Limited is a professional staffing and training firm which was founded in 1978 by our President and Owner, Linda Dancey.

Our main function is to recruit applicants for businesses who are searching for candidates to fill temporary, contract and full-time positions.

We also offer free candidate computer training and testing to candidates who wish to test or upgrade their skills. Tests range from a reliability multiple choice test to full-fledged application tests for programs like MS Word and Excel.

Order Placement

The recruiting process begins with with a client placing a job order. GRP's sales staff is trained in helping companies uncover what type of candidate they need (i.e. temporary, full-time, contract) and showing them how we can save a company time, money and many headaches. Once the order has been completed, the salesperson passes it onto our Recruiting Manager who decides which one of our professional recruiters will work on the order.

The Recruiter's Role

Once a recruiter receives a new order, they study it carefully and discuss it with the sales person who took the order. The recruiter asks any questions he or she may have in order to be able to choose the best possible candidates for the position. The recruiter will often call the client contact at this point in order to introduce him or herself and to "iron out" any of the finer points of the order.

Resumes Received

When a candidate applies to us, his or her name and accompanying skills and abilities are entered into our candidate database. When an order arrives from a client the requirements are entered and the computer performs a search, flagging candidates with matching skills.

Our professional recruiters take the list of candidates and assess each match through test results, interview notes, reference checks, online interview answers, personal experience, and so on. From this assessment comes the recruiter's short list of resumes to "route" to the client. The candidates are contacted by the recruiter for permission to send the resume at which point they can accept or decline the offer.

The client contact will then receive a copy of the candidate's resume via fax or e-mail. They may be hand-delivered by the sales person for extraordinary and/or sensitive cases.

Resumes remain the property of GRP and if a candidate we have routed to you is hired either directly or indirectly by you or your company, then the appropriate placement fee is applicable and you will be invoiced.

Routing and Interviewing

Once a resume is routed to our client it is up to them to look at the information which was sent and decide whom they will or will not interview. With the GRP recruiter acting as the facilitator, mutually convenient interviews will be set-up if the client wants to meet any of the possible candidates. In most cases, interviews take place at the client location but other arrangements can be made for extraordinary circumstances.

Skills Testing and Training

Prove It! testing, the official supplier of candidate skills testing for GRP, offers us the ability to eliminate any guesswork and the power to identify and select the most talented candidates and employees for all of our clients, based on true test results. Prove It! offers GRP and its' clients a true competitive advantage. Reference Checking

When interviews have been completed and the client has narrowed (short-listed) the list of applicants, detailed reference checks take place. Most often these reference checks are completed by the GRP recruiter and the results presented to the client, but this is not always the case. Some clients prefer to perform the reference checks themselves.

Job Offers and Thereafter

After a client has identified the candidate they would like to fill the position, they are asked to create a job offer, which will be presented to the chosen candidate. At this point the GRP Recruiter will once again act as a facilitator to "iron out" all of the little details which come with any job offer.

Payment, Invoicing and the Guarantee

Depending on what type of order was placed and the deal which was reached between the client contact and the GRP sales person, we bill as follows:

Temporary Positions:
For most temporary positions we bill on an hourly basis. When a temporary candidate is offered the job through the client firm they automatically go onto our payroll. We cover their salary and all government remittances. All you
receive is a weekly invoice showing the number of hours worked by the employee and the total to be submitted by you to GRP.

Full-Time Positions or Direct Hires:
For most full-time or direct hires our fee is a percentage of the estimated first year salary. This amount is agreed upon by the client and the GRP sales staff when the order is placed.
